[21.11.08] Azerbaijan: Explaining regime continuity
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs [NUPI] has the great pleasure to invite you to a seminar
Azerbaijan: Explaining regime continuity
In the Azerbaijani presidential elections on 15 October 2008, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev was re-elected for a second term. Azerbaijan is experiencing tremendous oil-driven economic growth, but is also characterised by growing inequalities and lack of political freedom. The lack of a level playing field caused the opposition to boycott the elections. This seminar focuses on the underlying issue of regime legitimacy, and explores the interconnections between economic and political development in the country.
