The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs [NUPI], in cooperation with the Embassy of Japan, has the great pleasure of inviting you to a seminar with Mr Nobukatsu Kanehara, Deputy Director-General, European Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan

 

Change of Strategic Surroundings in East Asia. What will be the implications for Norway?

 

The strategic surroundings of East Asia have changed in the 21st century. Mr Nobukatsu Kanehara will in his lecture explore the economic, military and political interests and strategy of Japan, Russia and China. He will focus on issues shaping the future of the region and examine the implications for Norway as Russia's Western neighbour.

Mr Nobukatsu Kanehara is Deputy Director-General for European Affairs, Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Mr. Kanehara entered the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in 1981 and has held significant posts in the Ministry such as Deputy Director of Russian Division, Director of Legal Affairs division, Policy Planning Division, US/Japan Security Treaty Division and most recently Policy Coordination Division. As for overseas assignments, he has been posted in the United States of America, Permanent Missions to the European Union and to the United Nations.
