[16.03.11] China’s Strategies in Latin America
The Norwegian Latin America Research Network (NorLARNet) and Network for Asian Studies, in cooperation with the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), have the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar:
China’s strategies in Latin America
- Development partner or a new imperialist?
China is becoming a major actor in Latin America. Trade between Latin America and China has increased twelvefold the last decade, Chinese investments in Latin America are soaring, and there are increasing political and military exchanges. Lately questions have been posed about the impact of China’s involvement on Latin America’s development strategies as well as future political and security implications. This seminar brings together high level experts on China’s foreign policy and development strategies and experts on Latin American development. Among the questions that will be raised are: What implications does the relationship with China have for the economic development of Latin America? How will it affect the relationship to the United States and other major powers? And how do China’s strategy in Latin America differ from its strategy in for example Africa?
