Political tensions are high in Georgia following mass demonstrations and the rescheduling of the presidential elections to 5 January 2008. One of Georgia’s top political analysts will give a brief overview and an assessment of the present situation.

Giorgi Gogia is Caucasus Researcher with the Human Rights Watch and former Caucasus Analyst with the International Crisis Group. He holds an MA degree in Political Science from the Central European University in Budapest and is a PhD candidate at the State University of Tbilisi, where he also serves as an Assistant Professor. His expertise includes South Caucasus conflicts - Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Nagorno Karabakh; human rights and political transition; and EU's role in the South Caucasus.
