During 2007-2010, NUPI and the Indian NGO CUTS International, Jaipur have jointly implemented a project on the impact of globalisation in Indian regions, funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi and Oxfam Novib, the Netherlands. India is a subcontinent where the average state is eight times larger than Norway, and economic growth as well as the impact of globalisation varies starkly across India’s more than 30 states. In the project, we explore these differences, drawing on local experiences, hard data and economic modelling. The GRANITE Phase 2 project was implemented with local partners in eight Indian states and in addition to research, the project has involved networking to enhance economic literacy, knowledge about globalisation and participation in the formulation of India’s trade policy. At the seminar, we present final results and experiences from the project.
