Kazakhstan's way to Europe

Secretary Saudabayev will discuss Kazakhstan's transition from a Soviet republic to an independent country with an emphasis on Kazakhstan's notable development record, its role in relation to global security, including energy security, the country's contributions to nuclear non-proliferation and the upcoming term for Kazakhstan as Chairman-in-Office of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in 2010. Secretary Saudabayev will outline Kazakhstan's vision for its OSCE Chairmanship as well as for its relations with Norway and Europe more generally.
Mr Saudabayev has previously served as Ambassador to the United States, the United Kingdom, Turkey and as Ambassador to Norway (with residence in London). As Secretary of State, Mr Saudabayev operates immediately under the leadership of the President of Kazakhstan, and is directly responsible to the President. The Secretary of State develops proposals on key dimensions of domestic and foreign policies for the President, and represents the President in international affairs as per his instructions.
