[18.06.12] No conflict, no reconciliation: Lessons from the 2010 violence in Kyrgyzstan

The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs has the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar:

No conflict, no reconciliation: Lessons from the 2010 violence in Kyrgyzstan
In June 2012, two years have passed since the interethnic violence in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. Despite a relatively calm situation today, there are few signs of real reconciliation between the ethnic Uzbeks and ethnic Kyrgyz.

This seminar combines an analysis of the situation in Kyrgyzstan and the broader Central Asian context today with detailed information about the violence as it occurred in 2010.

The lecture by Dr Maxim Ryabkov will examine the gap between the rhetoric in the international community and the reality on the ground. It will also discuss how this should be taken into account in the design of international policy towards Central Asia. The Norwegian Helsinki Committee will present their recent report, «A chronicle of violence», which describes the Osh events in detail not presented earlier.
