Russia and the North
Russland er geografisk sett den største arktiske staten og en viktig regional og global aktør i et energimarked som i stadig økende grad retter blikket mot nord. I motsetning til Norge, mangler Russland strategier som setter økonomiske og politiske mål for sine nordområder. Flere spesifikt nordlige utfordringer og muligheter fordrer spesifikt nordlige strategier. Likevel har ikke Putins administrasjon særegne nordlige kanaler for å takle utfordringer i disse områdene. Det som kan kalles russisk nordområdepolitikk er spredd utover en mengde felt fra nasjonal migrasjonspolitikk til olje- og gassutvikling. Spenningen mellom en sikkerhetsbasert nasjonalistisk tilnærming og en ressursbasert markedsorientering er med å forme Russlands forhold til nordområdene.
Målet med konferansen er å spore den russiske politikken mot nordområdene ved å se på den nordlige dimensjonen av flere politikkområder, fra klimaendringer, olje- og gassutvinning, demografi, urfolk, til grensespørsmål og Russlands bruk av nord i bilaterale og multilaterale relasjoner.
Konferansen Russia and the North vil foregå på engelsk.
