The Challenges of Afghanistan and the Way Forward
Mr. Mohammad Younus Qanooni is Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga (House of Representatives) of the National Assembly of Afghanistan. Mr. Qanooni was elected speaker of the first democratic parliament in 2005 when he established the New Afghanistan Party (Hezbe Afghanistan Nawin). He also established the first opposition institution under the name of Jabhai Tafahim Millie, which consisted of 12 political parties in 2005.
