Click here to register for the seminar

Tid:
Fredag 21.10.11, kl.09:00
Sted:
EU Delegation , Klingenberggaten 7A, 5th floor

The Eastern Partnership was launched in 2009 in an effort to step up the EU's relations with its Eastern neighbours. Following the recent Eastern Partnership Summit held in Warsaw, this seminar asks where the cooperation stands and what direction it will take in the future.

Has the partnership succeeded in bringing the Eastern neighbours closer to the EU? If so, in what sense? Which areas are lagging behind? And what role does the cooperation play within the larger framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy?

János Herman , EU Ambassador to Norway will present the latest developments of the Eastern Partnership, in light of the recent summit.

A speaker from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs  will present the Norwegian views on the Eastern Partnership and outline Norway's involvement in the region.

Pernille Rieker , Senior Researcher at NUPI will comment and place the Eastern Partnership within the broader European Neighbourhood Policy.

Geir Flikke , Senior Researcher at NUPI will comment, with a special emphasis on the effects of the Neighbourhood Policy in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.

In 2009 the EU launched a strategic and ambitious Eastern Partnership as a specific dimension of the European Neighbourhood Policy, to further support Eastern European countries’ sustainable reform processes with a view to accelerating their political association and economic integration with the European Union. The Eastern Partnership brings together the EU and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine in a community of values based on the principles of liberty, democracy, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law.

The seminar takes place from 09:00 - 11:00.
