Prior to this assignment, Mr. Coleman played a central role from 2006 to early 2011 in strengthening the UN’s practical work in the prevention and mediation of armed conflict.  He led the establishment of the Policy and Mediation Division in the UN Department of Political Affairs (DPA) and also served on a one-year assignment (2007-2008) as Director in the Office of the Secretary-General.
