[14.06.11] The forgotten partnership
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs and British Politics Society Norway have the pleasure of inviting to the seminar:
The forgotten partnership?
Norwegian-British relations in a changing Europe
Norway and Britain represent a bilateral relationship with strong historical roots.
The development of the Norwegian parliamentary system was inspired and influenced by the British Westminster model. In the immediate years after the Second World War, Britain was perhaps the most important partner in Norwegian foreign and security policy, not least with regard to the two countries’ approach to and membership in NATO, EFTA and the EEC/EU.
In recent years, Britain has been Norway’s largest export market for oil and gas. Culturally, Britain enjoys a remarkably strong influence in Norway, and the interest in British matters is considerable in the Norwegian press and public. Drawing together the many strands of influence and contact across the North Sea, what is the overall status of Norwegian-British relations today? To what extent have they changed in focus and complexity over the last decades?
