[11.11.08] The ongoing Financial Crisis
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs [NUPI] has the great pleasure of inviting you to a lecture with Sony Kapoor, Ex-investment banker, development expert and financial system reformer.
The ongoing Financial Crisis:
Causes, Effects and Cures
Mr. Kapoor will share his understanding of the causes of the financial crisis as seen by someone who has worked with the financial system both from the inside and the outside. Sony Kapoor will also talk about how the footprint of the crisis is likely to evolve in developing countries and what political and structural implications it might have for the world economy in the medium run.
Finally, he will speak briefly about what concrete technical and politico-economic actions need to be taken to reform the financial system so that it serves rather than dominates the real economy.
The Lecture will last from 14.30 - 15.30, including Q&A.
Mr. Kapoor is the Executive Director of Re-DeFinE ( Rethinking Development, Finance & Environment), a new international think tank working on reforming the financial system. He is an ex-investment banker and derivatives trader who has plaed a prominent role on promoting multinational debt cancellation, utilising innovative sources of financing for development, tackling capital flight and working towards a more development friendly financial system.
