[09.06.10] Turkey as a Rising Power
The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs [NUPI] and the Norwegian Peacebuilding Centre have the great pleasure of inviting you to the seminar
Turkey as a Rising Power
Turkey’s rise to regional prominence generates international headlines nearly every day. Lately, its strategic partnership with Israel has come under strain, with repercussions for Turkey’s relationship with all the countries in the region. This has implications for not only the regional dynamics in the Middle East, but also questions relating to peacekeeping and peacebuilding. Turkey has sought to normalise relations with its neighbours, such as Syria, Greece, Iran and Armenia. It has also sought a role as intermediary in the nuclear negotiations with Iran, and increasingly sees itself as a mediator in conflicts in the Middle East and in Caucasus. This new pattern in Turkey’s foreign policy is highly important to both its European and Western allies and to anyone interested in the regional dynamics and conflict resolution in the Middle East.
