This chapter differs from several of the others in this volume in that it deals with Russia’s encounter with globalization in a domestic context, in the form of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the Russian petroleum sector. The chapter uses the British-Russian petroleum company TNK-BP as a case study to look at the interface between foreign companies and Russian actors, and to deduce how decisions are made on the Russian side about the interaction with foreign companies.
