NUPI starter opp et nytt prosjekt om konsekvenser av NATOs uttrekning fra Afghanistan.
Les merAvdelingens virksomhet er konsentrert om fire hovedtema:
- Et sentralt forskningsområde er russisk sikkerhets- og utenrikspolitikk – herunder russiske hegemoniambisjoner i det postsovjetiske området, samt Russlands forhold til EU og NATO.
- Innenfor feltet regimestudier ligger fokus på ulike aspekter ved det russiske politiske system, politikkutforming og institusjonsbygging samt utviklingen av sentrum-periferi-forhold.
- Avdelingen fokuserer også på utviklingen i de russiske nordområder generelt og de norske nærområdene spesielt samt på ulike bistandsrelaterte prosjekter.
Geografisk dekker avdelingen Eurasia, dvs det postsovjetiske området med unntak av de baltiske statene.
