Les merProsjektgruppen for Den persiske golf ble etablert i 2000 og arbeider langs to spor: etisk-normative aspekter ved utenlandske selskapers engasjement i området mellom Persiabukten og Det kaspiske hav, samt spørsmål knyttet til politisk stabilitet i denne regionen. Nylig gjennomførte prosjekter inkluderer studier av Iran under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, korrupsjon i Aserbajdsjan, føderalisme i Irak, samt bredere problemstillinger knyttet til spørsmålet om sekularitet versus islamisme i Midtøsten. Prosjektgruppens viktigste oppdragsgivere er næringslivet – særlig oljeindustrien – og statlige aktører både i Norge og utenlands. Gruppen har pågående samarbeidsprosjekter med Syracuse University (New York) og Association Française pour l’Étude de la Méditerranée Orientale et du Monde Turco-Iranien (Paris).
