Global Strategies in Local Communities. Interference vs Interaction?
The project seeks to identify where the UN and the international community could further develop or refine their approaches to addressing sexual and gender-based violence in Liberia.Deltakere
The project takes as its departure point the fieldwork undertaken in Liberia earlier this year. In a recently published report (“Nobody Gets Justice Here!”) we identified the need for policies to address sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and to amend laws in order to make them more effective in this field. Targeted measures when not seen in relation to all the institutions of the rule of law are less effective.
We intend to follow the process of justice in 2–3 counties in order to identify where the UN and the international community could further develop or refine their approaches to addressing SGBV in Liberia, and where one ought to rely on traditional judicial processes. The response to the above-mentioned report on SGBV has been overwhelming, and the findings will be presented at seminars where UNMIL participates. UNMIL has also entered into a dialogue with us on how to better incorporate our findings into their work.
