19. mai 2011German Jihadists in Waziristan

NUPI, 6. april 2011: Yassin Musharbash

Dozens of jihadists from Germany have settled in the border region of Pakistan and Afghanistan over the past few years, forming what is arguably the largest foreign fighter contingent from outside the region. Most seem to have joined existing terror networks, engaging in battles as well as propaganda activities. But with the establishment of the “German Taliban Mujahidin” Brigade they also formed a group of their own. This presentation will shed some light on the make-up of this contingent, on its potential and the threat it poses to the West. It will also offer profiles of some of the better known militants from Germany. Lastly, it will explore current trends inside the jihadi communities in Waziristan as mirrored in the experiences of the German fighters there.
