This paper compares the protection of civilians strategies of three dif-ferent UN peacekeeping operations: the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC, since 2010 the United Nations Stabilisation Mission in the DRC – MONUSCO); the hybrid African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID); and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) that was drawn down in early 2010 and replaced by a new UN mission in Southern Sudan).
