The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) has the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar with Philippe Douste-Blazy, who will present his new book on Innovative Financing for Development: The Virtuous Circle: Solidarity will save globalization.

As the financial crisis takes its toll on gains achieved towards the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the costs of adapting to climate change are on the rise, the role of innovative finance for development as a complement to traditional Official Development Assistance (ODA) is more important than ever. It is becoming increasingly clear that innovative sources of financing from non-traditional sources will be crucial to closing the funding gap to achieve development outcome targets in the post- 2015 period, such as Child Protection, Sanitation or Education.

In this seminar, Douste-Blazy will discuss the progress made in the promotion of innovative financing mechanisms and how they can bring a positive contribution in mobilizing resources for reaching the MDGs. At the time of the book release, France is working on a new initiative to use taxes on financial transactions to fund health projects for children in developing countries.
