Barakat Khalil

Graduate Research Fellow

Barakat Khalil is Graduate Research Fellow in the Research group for peace, conflict and development. She has an undergraduate degree in Asia and Middle East Studies with a major in Persian and a minor in Economics, from the University of Oslo, and an ongoing Master's in the same study program where she is currently writing her thesis on the discourse of the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) following the assassination of its top military leader.

Prior to enrolling into the masters program, Barakat was an intern attache focusing on Syria, at the Norwegian embassy in Beirut, and later worked as an Integration and support officer in the UN-IOM. Her research interests include communal conflict, armed groups, transnationalism, with a geographic focus on Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria.
