The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, NUPI, has the pleasure of inviting you to the seminar:

"The Challenges of Peacebuilding in Liberia"

Is it possible to prevent Liberia from becoming the next Central African Republic or South Sudan? In this seminar international support to fragile states will be discussed, looking at the challenges of peacebuilding in Liberia.

This seminar is a part of the NUPI seminar series: "Who's next? Peacebuilding's role in preventing the next violent conflict"
, that focuses on the 2015 Review of the UN Peacebuilding Architechture.

Ambassador Staffan Tillander 
is based at the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations in New York. In April 2012, he was appointed Chair of the Peacebuilding Commission’s Country-specific Configuration for Liberia. Ambassador Tillander holds a Ph.D. in political science from The Pennsylvania State University.  He was Ambassador to Ethiopia and to the African Union, 2005-2008, and also accredited to the Sudan and Djibouti. In the years 2001-2005, Staffan Tillander worked at the Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union in Brussels, where he was in charge of the portfolio related to security and defense policy, also serving as Deputy Representative to the EU Political and Security Committee and as a board member of the EU Institute for Security Studies. Tillander joined the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in 1988 as First Secretary in the UN Department. Between 1991 and 1993, he held his first diplomatic post at the Embassy of Sweden in Brasilia, Brazil. He represented Sweden on the UNDP Executive Board 1994-1997 and was also responsible for the Nordic UN Reform project in 1995-1997, at the UN Department at the Foreign Ministry in Stockholm. From 1997 to 2001, Tillander held the position of Counsellor and then Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden to Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti. He served as Climate Ambassador at the Ministry of Environment in Stockholm 2008-2011, and also Ambassador for the Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio 2012.
