Henriette Ullavik Erstad

Research Fellow

Henriette Ullavik Erstad is Research Fellow in the Peace, Conflict and Development Research Group at NUPI. Erstad has a masters degree in Political Science from the University of Oslo. The subject of her thesis was how Iran has mobilised Iraqi Shi’a militias since 1979. She has conducted fieldwork in Iran and Iraq.

Erstad's research interests include international relations of the Middle East, Iranian foreign- and security policy, armed groups, and transnational movements. Her most recent publication is the working paper 'Islamic Insurgents in the MENA Region: Global Threat or Regional Menace?'. Read it here.
