What are the challenges and priorities in the American cyberspace?

In this seminar, Thomas McDermott will provide an outline of the U.S. National Cyber Strategy - which was published a year ago - and asses its status today. He will also discuss the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s approach to cyber security issues, including through building public and private partnerships. Finally, he will address supply chain risk and its impact on new fifth generation (5G) telecommunications networks, a risk the United States has repeatedly warned its allies about.

Thomas McDermott is the Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in charge of cyber security policy.  He advises senior department officials and oversees the development of policy positions related to the full range of cyber, technology, infrastructure, and resilience issues.

This seminar is moderated by Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Research Group on Security and Defense at NUPI, Karsten Friis.
