How do various actors contribute to peaceful resolution of conflicts?
At NUPI, research on conflict resolution often has a practical aim: to improve the methods uses for creating dialogue and reconciliation among the parties to a conflict. This can involve both getting them to the negotiations table, and establishing lasting solutions for peace. Small states, big states, governmental and civil-society actors around the world may be involved in conflict resolution. The study of conflict resolution is closely linked to peace operations and peacebuilding, diplomacy and studies of conflicts.
Research questions within the field of conflict resolution can include:
- What ways can lead to formal peace negotiations?
- What are the roles of the negotiators and facilitators in negotiations?
- How are the power relations in a peace process?
