What can be done to improve the situation in Somalia? The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has reached a decisive tipping point.

On the one hand some progress has been made, displaced persons are being assisted and AMISOM has successfully created and maintained both a physically and politically secure space for the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) within which to operate.

On the other hand the current mandate of the TFG executive expires in August 2011, and it is unclear what the political process entails going forward. This means that AMISOM is in danger of operating within a political vacuum. In addition the mission urgently needs increased funding and more soldiers.

The seminar is held in collaboration with the Norwegian Peace Building Centre (NOREF).
