The Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, NUPI, has the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar with Mikhail Krutikhin, partner of the RusEnergy independent analytical and consulting agency:

Governance and the Law in Russian Business: Examples from the Petroleum Sector

Investors in Russia tell a joke: ‘Private business in this country is so shaky because you have to build the roof before anything else.’ In Russian, ‘roof’ (krysha
) means not just the upper cover for a house but also ‘criminal protection’.

Can you really invest in
Russia today, and operate your business staying on the right side of the law? This is a question many international managers ask after hearing news from Moscow. Mikhail Krutikhin, a partner of the RusEnergy independent analytical and consulting agency, describes the situation in the oil and gas industry in Russia and suggests solutions for such problems.

Mikhail Krutikhin
is an analyst and consultant on the oil and gas industry and politics in Russia.  He is a co-founder of and analyst with the RusEnergy consultancy in Moscow, Russia, and editor-in-chief of The Russian Energy weekly newsletter.  He previously served as editor-in-chief for the Russian Petroleum Investor and as associate editor for the Caspian Investor monthly magazines.

Between 1972 and 1992, he worked for TASS news agency in Moscow, Cairo, Damascus, Tehran, and Beirut, rising from correspondent to chief of bureau.

Bengt Lie Hansen
is non-equity partner at Selmer DA, and works primarily with oil, gas and offshore law. Lie Hansen has 37 years of experience from work in the oil and gas business, including the Norwegian Ministry of Oil and Energy, Norsk Hydro, and Statoil. Lie Hansen was President in Statoil in Russia and negotiated Statoil’s entry into the Shtokman project. He is Professor II at the High North Center in Bodø and a Member of the Russian Academy of Science.
