UN peace operations are facing a number of changes and challenges. What does this mean for Norway?

The 2015 Military Power Seminar focuses on the current changes in UN peace operations, in particular the use of force, its challenges and implications for Norwegian security policy.

The conference is jointly organized by the Norwegian Defence University College (NDUC) and NUPI.

What role have UN operations had in Norway’s security and defence policy in historical perspective? Will Norwegian decision makers allocate resources to UN operations, given the new and increasingly challenging security situation in Europe and Norway’s near abroad? What implications would greater engagement in UN operations have for the Norwegian armed forces in light of the current Defence Review? Would it add value in terms of heightened operative skills on the national scene, or would greater UN engagement reduce Norway’s ability to perform credible national defence and crisis management?
