China and Multilateral Development Banks (KINMDB)

2018 (Completed)
Research project
How and why is China strengthening its position in the major development banks?

This project maps China’s roles and positions within the World Bank, all the major regional development banks and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In addition, we pay special attention to relevant international institutions that have been initiated by China, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the New Development Bank.

The report, which was finalized in fall 2018, shows a very clear trend: China is changing, strengthening and expanding its engagements in all the major development banks and the IMF.

Funding program

The project is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
