Our TfP and EPON Research Team - Dr Freedom Onuoha and Mariana Llorens Zabala - travelled to Chad last week to conduct numerous interviews with the different components of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) and Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC). They were able to interview the Force Commander, Deputy Force Commander and sector commanders of Sector 3 (Nigeria) and Sector 4 (Niger) of the MNJTF, the chief officers for Intelligence, Logistics, Training, Operations and Civil-Military cooperation, as well as the Police Advisor, the Centre for Coordination and Liaison officers and the NGO Coginta. In addition to this, they met with the Executive Secretary of the LCBC, H.E Ambassador Mamman Nuhu and the Head of the Regional Stabilisation Strategy (RSS) Secretariat, Chika Charles Aniekwe. During these interviews, the team discussed questions regarding the effectiveness of the MNJTF in delivering its mandate to create a safe and secure environment for the populations affected by Boko Haram and its effectiveness in supporting the RSS and delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected populations. The interviews will feature the next EPON mandate renewal report that will assess the effectiveness of the MNJTF to inform the next mandate renewal process in February 2023.
