Summary
Sinikka Wasland Gjems is a master’s student in Chinese Culture and Society at the University of Oslo (UiO). At NUPI she will also work as a research assistant in the Research Group for Eastern Europe and Asia. Her master thesis is about young Chinese who have moved to rural areas to engage in entrepreneurship, and their position in Chinese economy and perceptions of their own labour. Her other academic interests include Chinese politics, autocratic regimes and China’s global role. Sinikka has previously completed bachelor’s degrees in international studies and Chinese with China studies at UiO. She has also worked as a research assistant at UiO and has been an intern at the Norwegian Embassy in Beijing.
