Informal Roundtable on the Future of UN Peace Operations
On 24 June 2025, an informal roundtable was held in Addis Ababa to support the ongoing UN review of peace operations. Hosted at the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS), the event brought together UN officials, AU representatives, diplomats, and researchers to reflect on key priorities for the future of peace operations.
This informal roundtable convened experts and policy stakeholders in Addis Ababa to inform the ongoing UN review of peace operations. Discussions focused on adapting peace operations to evolving security environments, enhancing UN-AU cooperation, and drawing lessons from AU-led and hybrid missions.
Key speakers included senior UN officials, diplomats, former mission leaders, and researchers from institutions such as the UN DPO, DPPA, ISS, NUPI, and Amani Africa. The event combined briefings, rapid-fire “ignite” talks, and an open discussion to generate forward-looking insights for the review process.
