Forskningsprosjektets to overordnede mål er
1) å fremme og styrke det georgiske forskningsmiljøet gjennom et integrert forskningsprosjekt mellom norske og georgiske forskere
2) å videreføre kunnskap gjennom veiledning av doktorgradsstudenter og juniorforskere i Georgia.
Samarbeidsprosjektet vil forske på Georgias strategiske posisjonering i regionen og hvordan de fire hovedaktørene - Georgia, utbryterrepublikken Abkhasia, EU og Russland - oppfatter seg selv og hverandres plass i Georgias strategiske utvikling.
The Georgian Institute of Politics (GIP) er et ideelt, uavhengig forskningsinstitutt som ble grunnlagt i 2011. GIP har som formål å fremme godt styresett og demokratiske verdier i Georgia, og er et av landets ledende forskningsmiljø med bred internasjonal annerkjennelse.
